Constitution / Establishment of Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CCSEA) authorized Institutional Animal Ethics Committee

Initially, a meeting was held in the presence of the then Teacher in Charge, Dr Saswati Dasgupta, to establish the animal house and the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC), Rammohan College, on 19-01-2012. The first meeting was held at 1 p.m. on that day in the Zoology department, New Science Building, Rammohan College, Kolkata. Dr. Samarendra Nath Banerjee, Department of Zoology, Rammohan College, wrote a letter with the minutes of the meeting dated 19-01-2012 and a demand draft (No. 751307 dated 03-04-2012) of Rs. 1000/ to CPCSEA (currently CCSEA), Ministry of Environment and Forests, Animal Welfare Division, Government of India, Chennai, Tamil Nadu to establish the Animal House and for permission to CPSCEA registration on 03-04-2012. Chennai's head office forwarded this letter to CPCSEA, New Delhi, on 23-04-2012.

Then CPCSEA approved the names of Dr Captain Kamal Kanti Dutta and Dr Prabhat Kumar Samanta as CPCSEA nominees for the inspection of the Animal House. The inspection report of the animal house facility by Dr Dutta and Dr Samanta was sent to the Member Secretary, CPCSEA, New Delhi, on 19th July 2014 with a detailed floor plan of the animal house.

On 31-12-2014, CPCSEA, New Delhi approved and accepted the report of Dr Captain Kamar Kanti Dutta and Dr Pravat Samanta and issued the registration number 1795 / PO / Ere / S / 14 / CPCSEA for the animal house of Rammohan College.

According to the guidelines of this report, we reconstituted the IAEC for Rammohan College and a list of members for IAEC, along with their biodata and consents, was sent on 22nd January 2015. Finally, CPCSEA, New Delhi approved and accepted the list of internal members of the IAEC and sent the names of the nominated members of the CPCSEA, New Delhi. Finally 1st meeting of Institutional Animal Ethics Committee, Rammohan College was held in the presence of nominated members and the animal house had been established in Rammohan College (First in the Kolkata and neighbouring) following the rules and regulations of CCSEA, Government of India.
